SACO, ME- ’93 forward Connor Anthoine has made a verbal commitment to accept a full scholarship offer from the University of Vermont (Hockey East) for the fall of 2011. Anthoine (5’9”, 165lb), who is currently a freshman at St. Dom's High School and a native of Lewiston, ME, is currently a member of the Portland Junior “B” Pirates of the Metropolitan Junior Hockey League.
Through 26 games, the smooth skating 14 year old has a 9-12-21 line for the season.
"We are excited for Connor and his commitment. He has a special skill set that we know will only get better. UVM is very fortunate to nab someone with his skill and passion for the game," said Head Coach and President of the Portland Junior Pirates Sean O'Brien.
Anthoine recently played for the MetJHL North Conference All-Star squad, netting a goal and an assist in the game.
Last summer, he was selected to the U14 Team New England team and competed in the USA U14 National Camp in Rochester, NY. Last season, he skated for the Portland Junior Pirates Bantam Major team, posting a 42-34-76 line through 47 games. This April, Anthoine is slated to compete for the North American East Coast Selects team which will compete in tournaments in Russia, Finland, and Sweden.
Anthoine is the 36th college commitment for the Portland Junior Pirates organization since their first season (2003-2004), just four years ago.
